What will you need to apply vaporized oxalic acid to your hives? Not a lot:
  • This vaporizer
  • Oxalic acid
  • PPE (personal protective equipment) like goggles, gloves and respirator. I hook it up, stand back a long way (upwind) and time out 4 minutes. Typically you can see the smoke vapors escape cracks, etc. during minutes 2 and 3. Be careful, the smoke is toxic to you too!
  • Knowledge on how to do it: I like Randy Oliver's scientificbeekeeping.com  Just as an example: For each hive, after human consumption honey supers are removed, typically I apply 1.5 grams per treatment, 3 treatments total, treatments exactly 7 days apart. But do the reading so you know what's going on...
  • Common sense! It's a precision tool that is meant to get very hot - so treat it with respect.
