Up for sale is an envelope that I believe was most likely a Pay Envelope from Fowler's Department store in Binghamton, NY. The front of the envelope has a drawing of the store and boosts that it is "Binghamton's Largest Store." The top of the front has the date of June 17, 1947 then the 17 is crossed out with pencil and the number 25 written above it. Under the date is the Social Security number , D95 and the name Samuel Pope. Some quick research on Ancestry says that Samuel Pope was born May 17 1880 and died in Binghamton, New York in Sept 1968. Since the Social Security number appears on the envelope my best guess is that it was a pay envelope for him, perhaps his last ? as he would have been 67 in 1947. Another name, beginning with B, is written in pencil under the D95 but I am not able to confidently state what it says. I discovered this inside of a book that I purchased at an estate sale. Great collectible for Binghamton, NY or perhaps descendants of Samuel Pope. Please see photos.
Condition Issues: Small tear along top edge of opening of envelope. Pencil notation written to change date from 17 to 25. Pencil notation of a name written below "Samuel Pope." Please see photos.
