HOW TO GROW
STEVIA
Step 1
Sow 3-4 seeds
roughly 3mm deep into each
small pot of moist
soil mixed with some sand.
Leave in a light
sunny position. Ideally,
sow 6-8 weeks
prior to the last frost
and keep indoors.
Step 2
Keep moist and
warm but not too wet.
Warm temperatures
are required for
germination so if
below 10°C
regularly
consider using a
heating mat.
Seeds
should germinate in 2-4 weeks.
Step 3
Once sprouted,
either weed off the
weaker seedlings
or transplant all
to their own individual pots.
Transplant 7-8
week old seedlings
but only after the
last frost.
Stevia can be
planted in the ground or
in pots but in
colder regions the plant is
grown as an
annual. Keeping plant in pots
allows grower to
move indoors to
protect from
frost.
Step 4
In warm, sunny
conditions Stevia can be
harvested within 5-6 months but will take
slightly longer in
colder climates.

STEVIA
Stevia is native to tropical regions
of Paraguay and is closely
related to
Sunflowers and Chrysanthemums.
The active compounds of Stevia
have 250–300 times the
sweetness of sugar.
The Sweet Leaf plant has been
used for more than 1500 years
by the Guaraní people of Brazil
and Paraguay, who used it as a
medicine and to sweeten teas.
