 The dust jacket is in fair condition with chips, tears and tanning.  There is some tape on the inside of the jacket and it is price clipped.  The hardcover book is in fair to good condition.  The blue boards have fading on the edges and there is a brown spot on the front board.  There is slight separation in the gutter on the front end page.  The pages are all in good condition, free from rips, tears, bends and writing.  The pages are lightly toned and the book is slightly cupped.  This is a rare first printing of Gertrude Stein's book about "a resourceful woman, who remained in France during the four years of the German occupation, and wrote it in long-hand under the noses of the Nazis who were often quartered in her house".
