The Philadelphia National Bank Joined The Philadelphia Clearing House On March 22, 1858 And Merged With The Fourth Street National Bank In 1928. Joseph Wayne, Jr. Was President During The Bankers Trust Company Closure, And Albert Greenfield Later Blamed Him And Pennsylvania Company President C. Stevenson Newhall For The Troubles Leading Up To The Closure. Greenfield Claimed That The Pennsylvania Company And The Philadelphia National Bank Pressured Bankers Trust Into Acquiring The Bank Of Philadelphia And Trust Company, A Merger That Ultimately Toppled Bankers Trust. Wayne And Newhall's Motivation Was Said To Be Debts Owed To The Pennsylvania Company And The Philadelphia National Bank By The Bank Of Philadelphia, Which The Latter Was Unable To Repay. After Bankers Trust Collapsed In December Of 1930, Both Banks' Loans Were Repaid.
