soft insert are stand alone level IIIA
and milstd fragmentation rated construction. Great for
handgun and frag protection in any plate carrier with 6x8 pockets.
And if worn in your IIIA vest they will stop all IIIA rounds as you will
have IIIA armor behind level IIIA armor, plus 9mmAP, 7.62x25, 5.7x28, .454casull,
.50AE and other specialty pistol rounds and provide up to 40% blunt trauma
reduction. Besides being light, about 13 ounces, these inserts are soft,
flexible and comfortable and just over 1/4" thick. They are made
of the best ballistics in the world; Kevlar and Goldflex with Spectra for really good
stopping power for fragments and point blank shots (such as .44 magnum) and are
thinner and lighter than standard Kevlar. A mix of these 3 materials gives
better protection than any single fabric insert. And these are
perfect if you use SAPI plates in your plate carrier (nearly all
SAPI plates are in conjunction plates, meaning they have to have IIIA armor behind
them to provide their rated protection. If "stand alone" isn't marked
on your SAPI then it needs soft armor behind it, and this includes military
plates Spall
is when a bullet explodes into tiny fragments when hitting a steel plate at
near a perpendicular degree angle. Ricochet is when pieces, or even the
whole bullet deflect off a steel plate when hitting at a sharper angle.
These soft inserts are designed to go
in your plate pockets IN FRONT of steel SAPI plates
to mostly eliminate spall and reduce ricochets . They stop
the bullet fragments exploding off after hitting the steel to keep them
from hitting you or your nearby buddy. Front plates are particularly
dangerous because of being close to your carotid artery. All
steel plates are prone to this problem, and rubber coatings (linex, rhinolining
etc) do not do much after the 1st shot. And edge protection only
stops spall from shots right at the edge, and can't stop richocets or high
angle spall.

We shot an
11-Year-Old, Level II Vest with four, 9 mm rounds, plus '00' Buckshot, all from 24" (61 cm).
The deepest penetration was 9 layers of Kevlar® – not even halfway
through!
The 9 mm
bullets penetrated 5, 6, 8 and 9 layers – out of 20 layers total!
Most of the '00' Buckshot is still on top of the vest
