Marc Chagall, vintage folded cards, Maeght Editeur 1959, box set of 20 (10 variations), excellent condition. Produced by Galerie Maeght, featuring the work of Marc Chagall. Each set comes in the original shipping box complete with customs clearance and postmark. 


The cards are printed on watercolor paper by A La Marque J. Perrigot, Arches Special MBM and are watermarked as such.  Each card has an original envelope printed on paper from St. Marcel Les Annonay- Paperterie Montgolfier, also watermarked. St. Marcel Les Annonay- Paperterie Montgolfier is a famous paperterie that dates back to 1805 in the French town of St. Marcel Les Annonay.  Both the cards and the envelopes are in excellent condition.  These are unowned items from the residual inventory of a bookstore/gallery, which operated in Manhattan (NY, NY USA) from the 19402- 1970s. There are ten images and each set includes at least one of each.  The ten images are:

The Galerie Maeght is a world renowned gallery of modern art. The first Maeght was opened in 1936 in Cannes, then the first Galerie Maeght in 1946, in Paris. They have represented the greatest international artists, with the French artists, Matisse, Léger, Spanish artists Miró, Chillida Tapies, Russians artists Chagall and Kandinsky, American artists Kelly and Calder, and Swiss artist Giacometti, just to name a few.  They are still in operation today and are among the most celebrated galleries of modern art.

Provenance: From the residual estate inventory of The Golden Griffin Gallery/Arts Inc., operated in New York City, New York from the 1950s to the 1970s. It dealt primarily with contemporary American and European artists.
