Four (4) rare, full, unused and unstruck 1940's vintage front strike matchbooks all in near mint condition from the historical Hotel Sir Francis Drake and Drake's Tavern, located inside "The Drake", on Union Square in San Francisco, California. These matchbooks advertise the Starlite Roof, Drake's Grill and the Golden Hind, all part of the famous Western International Hotels. When the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, known today by locals as "The Drake", opened in 1928 it offered impressive innovations like an indoor golf course, ice water on tap and radios in every guest room. The city and the country had never seen anything like it. These are very rare and very nice collectors' items.
