Extremely RARE Dimensional Late 1800's era Carved Meerschaum Pipe Depicting A Woman Sitting in a Chariot being pulled by Two Roaring Lions, Very Detailed.  This wonderful antique Meerschaum carved pipe was from an Estate Find, I was Not given any history or ownership on it.  This pipe would of been carved/produced in Austria.  Block Carved Meerschaum Pipe.
Figures like these were Mythological, Greek or Roman Mythology and were a special order or were carved and exhibited.  The Subject Matter on this specific motif usually represents the ancient Phygian goddess Cybele (or sometimes Aphrodite/Athena), who was famously depicted in mythology driving a chariot pulled by roaring lions.

The pipe has been smoked, not cleaned or messed with at all...exactly as I got it at the Estate.  Not any makers marks that I notice.  Measures total length 13", with the carved meerchaum measuring 3 1/2" deep x 3" tall x 2 3/8" across the front.  Beautiful patina and warmth from hand holding/wear.  I believe the metal cap is sterling but not seeing a mark and there is residue over some of it, the sterling would of been appropriate on this piece.  The long stem looks like cherry wood, it somewhat turns but is firmly set inside the metal piece.
On the womans leg on the closeup photo there is two very thin fine lines noticed, not damage or a repair, they are very solid and look to of been there for a long time.  I don't notice any repairs anywhere and any other real issues on any parts.  There is still some faint odor from the tobacco smoked.  Clean well cared for and cherished, looks like it was a family heirloom.  Please view all my photos as they are also part of my description.  Questions let me know.
