HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Philippines played a significant role in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Following the Japanese invasion in 1941, American and Filipino forces fought a difficult defensive campaign before the occupation of the islands.
In October 1944, General Douglas MacArthur returned to the Philippines as Allied forces began the liberation campaign.
Specially prepared Victory Series currency was introduced to help restore the monetary system in liberated territories.
The distinctive VICTORY overprint became a symbol of the return of the Commonwealth government and the restoration of Allied authority.
APOLINARIO MABINI
The obverse features a portrait of Apolinario Mabini, an important Filipino political thinker and revolutionary leader.
Known for his intellectual contributions to Philippine independence, Mabini served as a principal adviser during the formation of the First Philippine Republic.
His portrait connects this wartime treasury certificate to the broader history of Philippine nationhood and independence.
DISTINCTIVE DESIGN
The front displays the familiar portrait of Mabini, the denomination ONE PESO, the blue Treasury seal, and the Victory Series No. 66 designation.
The reverse is printed in orange and prominently overprinted with the word “VICTORY.”
This design makes the note especially recognizable among collectors of World War II-era paper money.
