This vintage Amberina art glass piece is an exceptional find for collectors of mid-century modern glassware, tobacciana enthusiasts, or anyone searching for a striking pop of retro color!
Featuring a gorgeous fiery color gradient that transitions from a rich ruby red center to a bright golden-amber rim, this versatile dish beautifully captures the vibrant aesthetic of classic mid-century glassmaking.
Historical Background:
Dating from the 1960s to the 1970s, Amberina glass was popularized by historic American institutions such as L.E. Smith, Kanawha, and Viking Glass. The stunning color shifts naturally during the cooling and reheating process due to specialized compounds embedded in the glass batch. This specific round form functions perfectly as an individual standalone ashtray, desk accessory, or trinket catchall. The distinct parallel glass tabs or "fins" molded directly into the center were specifically designed to pinch and hold a standard paper matchbook or individual pack of cigarettes upright, making it a highly stylized piece of period-accurate smoking americana.
Item Details:
Condition:
Good vintage condition. The vibrant Amberina glass retains excellent clarity, bold color saturation, and a smooth, reflective surface shine that catches light beautifully. The central match/pack holding tabs are completely smooth and intact. The top surface exhibits typical light micro-scratching from past desk placement, along with a few tiny, natural factory-molded ash specks/bubbles enclosed within the glass matrix from production. There are no structural cracks, deep gouges, or large chips along the display faces or edges.
An absolute must-have addition for an estate glassware collection or a striking pop of mid-century color for a vintage bar or vanity desk.
