Description: The Onyx Store, originally known as Scodie Station, is shown here as a weathered white clapboard building displaying a sign for hardware, gas, and oil. Built in the 1850s by William Scodie, it served as a freight wagon stop along the South Fork of the Kern River, located between Walker Pass and Lake Isabella and Kernville. Large, aged cottonwood trees frame the front of the building, and the store remained in continuous operation as a well-known landmark in this remote Kern County community.
