Antique Circa 1915 Pierced Pastry & Tomato Server - Solid Sterling Silver Handle
Up for sale is a lovely piece of early 20th-century historical table service. This hybrid-construction server features a beautifully weighted, solid Sterling Silver handle paired with a rigid, heavy silver-plated pierced lifting blade.
Silversmiths designed pieces this way during the Edwardian era because solid sterling is too malleable to withstand the prying and lifting required of heavy pastries, tomatoes, or baked goods.
The front and back of the handle throat is cleanly stamped with "STERLING", while the back neckline is stamped "PAT. 1915" inside a classic elongated border cartouche box.
Design & Utility:
The handle boasts an elegant, classical revival double-line vertical ribbing down the stem, terminating in a beautiful scrolled accent border at the crown. The shovel blade features a gorgeous, die-cut pierced foliate pattern designed to drain juices or oils when serving sliced tomatoes, small pastries, or eggs.
Condition Report:
Good antique condition. The sterling handle is structurally sound and securely attached to the blade tang with no wobbling. Shows a wonderful, authentic dark tarnish patina in the deep crevices that accents the historic pattern (can be polished bright if desired). The plated blade has minor ambient surface scuffs from a century of light use, but zero metal flaking or deep pitting.
