Vintage Art Deco Octagonal Heavy Bronze Desk Paperweight - Bearded River God Relief
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly detailed vintage decorative desk paperweight or architectural medallion plaque. Measuring exactly 2.5" x 2.5", this heavy-gauge piece features a beautifully sculpted, high-relief Art Deco depiction of a bearded classical mythological figure (likely a River God or a seasonal allegory) reclining in profile.
The powerful muscular geometry and the stylized waves of his hair and beard reflect the classic, sophisticated aesthetic of the 1920s and 1930s European neoclassical revival. The relief is framed within an octagonal frame highlighted by a distinct beaded interior border.
Condition & Finish Details:
• Front: Excellent antique condition. The high-relief points of the figure's shoulder, muscles, and beard feature stunning warm golden rubbing highlights that provide phenomenal visual contrast against the deeper, dark-patinated recessed background shadows.
• Back: The reverse completely preserves its original, smooth, factory-applied acid-washed chemical patina, showing abstract swirling tones of coppers, golds, and greens.
A premier addition to an antique desk vignette, an industrial library study, or a collection of historic 20th-century art bronzes.
