$2 RIVER RAISIN & LAKE ERIE RAILROAD COMPANY
MONROE, MICHIGAN - DECEMBER 10, 1836

SOLD TO THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ON SEPTEMBER 17, 1840
Here’s yet another piece of Michigan history with the added desirability of having a vignette of a horse at center!  The River Raisin & Lake Erie Railroad Company (Monroe, Michigan) was chartered by the State of Michigan in March of 1836 to build a railroad.  They failed at this but operated as a currency-issuing Bank under the General Banking Law of 1837!   This $2 note exhibits Fine+ or better details - but note that it does have the original “X” cut-cancel (see stamp hinge on reverse side of note).  I try my best to describe the currency I offer - but my 75 year-old eyes aren’t what they used to be, so please look closely at the large, scanned images I provide.  Again - this isn’t the most-common nor inexpensive banknote - but there’s definitely a lot of history being offered here!
