Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Franking Kuala Lumpur CDS Foreign Letter Rate
OVERVIEW
Original 1951 Selangor postal cover mailed from Kuala Lumpur, Malaya, to Mr. O. P. Erickson, 410 Lane Street, Waterloo, Iowa, USA.
The envelope features two 10c Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah definitives, a prominent Kuala Lumpur circular datestamp, and a distinctive diagonally typed return address identifying Peter De Alcantra of No. 166 Ipoh Road.
FRANKING & POSTAL HISTORY
Franked with two separate 10c purple Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah stamps from the 1949 definitive issue, cataloged as Selangor Scott 86 and Stanley Gibbons 98. The stamps are positioned vertically and total 20c.
The Kuala Lumpur circular datestamp reads 12 JU 51, corresponding to June 12, 1951, with the letter B at its base.
The strike falls predominantly across the lower stamp, extends onto the envelope, and touches the lower edge of the upper stamp.
The 20c postage matches the foreign surface-letter rate for the first ounce introduced on April 1, 1951.
CONTEXT & COLLECTOR APPEAL
This cover documents postwar correspondence from Selangor to the American Midwest.
The clearly typed Waterloo destination, diagonal Kuala Lumpur return address, and prominent cancellation complement the Sultan portrait franking.
An appealing example for collectors of Selangor stamps on cover, British Malaya postal history, foreign surface rates, and mail to Iowa.
