FRENCH OFFICES IN CHINA – CANTON SPECIALIZED USED COLLECTION – PART 16

Interesting specialized collection of 41 used stamps of the French Post Office in Canton (Guangzhou), China, comprising several different issues and periods.

The collection includes early CANTON overprints on classic French Indochina stamps, Chinese currency surcharges, later French colonial issues and several higher denominations, including a 2 Franc value.

A number of stamps show attractive postal cancellations, some with clearly visible or partly legible dates and place names.

Three stamps bear old expert/collector marks on the reverse. Enlarged photographs of these markings are included. The markings have not been identified by us and should not be regarded as independent certificates of authenticity.

Specialist note:
The early Canton issues are a highly specialized collecting field with different overprint types, settings and varieties. Forged overprints and surcharges are known. The individual stamps, overprints, cancellations and possible varieties have not been independently expertized by us and are offered exactly as shown for specialist examination.

Condition:
Used, generally collectible condition for this classic material. Various postal cancellations, ranging from clear or partly legible strikes to heavier postmarks. The reverse scan shows old hinge remnants, mounting strips, occasional gum or paper adhesions, discoloration and other age-related traces. Some stamps show more noticeable wear. Please examine the detailed scans carefully.

This is Part 16 of a large old-time collection of French Post Offices in China which is being offered in several separate lots. Please see our other listings for further parts of this collection.

Please examine the high-resolution scans carefully.
The scans show the complete lot and form an important part of the description.
