4 documents related to sergeant William H. Fleisher dated June of 1864 where he is transferred to the 70th Regiment of Colored Infantry.  You can find more information about the 70th regiment online but it was a regiment of African American troops organized in 1864 in Natchez Mississippi.  This group of documents appears to  basically record Fleisher, who was previously a corporal with the 4th Illinois calvary being promoted to sergeant and reassigned to the 70th regiment.  He likely served as a white sergeant for the African American troops.

The group consists of these 4 documents

 1)    Handwritten special order dated 6/26/64 noting Fleisher being promoted and reassigned to the “70th Regiment U.S. Colored Infantry at Natchez Mississipi”  The order is signed by adjutant general Lorenzo Thomas who per his Wikipedia page took an active role during the civil war of recruiting African American soldier and was later in 1868 appointed temporary Secretary of War and became embroiled in Andrew Johnson’s impeachment.

 2)    2 page document regarding Fleisher’s pay dated 6/26/64

 3)    Large foldout muster roll document for Fleisher regarding his assignment to the 70th regiment and it has a typed special order attached to it regarding the 70th Regiment.  Single sided document

 4)    Large foldout double-sided muster roll for Fleisher regarding his assignment
