Wonderful early antique mohair teddy bear, approximately 15" tall and believed to date to around the 1920s.

Five-way jointed with amber/brown pupil glass eyes, original-looking black stitched nose and mouth, felt paw pads, long tapered arms and legs, elongated feet, pronounced muzzle and shoulder hump.

An internal squeaker/growler mechanism can be felt inside the torso but is not currently working. Head and limbs are very firmly stuffed; torso is considerably softer possibly kapok.

This bear has been researched extensively. Its age, proportions and construction share characteristics with early J.K. Farnell and Steiff teddy bears. No maker's button or label remains, so I cannot definitively attribute the manufacturer and am selling it as unidentified. Steiff and Farnell are included for identification/search purposes only. Please examine all photos and make your own determination.

Condition is consistent with considerable age and use. There is substantial overall mohair loss/thinning with woven backing visible in numerous areas. Felt paw pads show age/wear. No visible claw stitching remains. Nose/mouth stitching shows age and wear. Please see all detailed photos as they are an important part of the condition description.

No cleaning, restuffing or restoration has been attempted. Selling exactly as found.

A wonderful early teddy bear with loads of character and desirable antique construction.
