This is a beautiful unique antique Art Deco sterling silver and butterfly wing brooch by designer 'Thomas L Mott'. This unique square piece measures 3.1cm long and 3cm wide. It is stamped 'STERLING, ENGLAND' on the back of the piece along with the designer 'Thomas L Motts' initials 'TLM'. The brooch features a reverse hand painted beach scene with a black palm tree and golden sand against a red beach hut. The brooch has a smooth silver setting with a braided effect running around the edge. The brooch is inlaid with a turquoise butterfly wing sky against a blue sea. Butterfly wings were often used in Art Deco jewellery because of their natural metallic blue iridescence and shimmering, prism like optical effects that mimic precious gemstones. This antique hand painted piece is in excellent condition and is a rare vintage find.
