The badge design features a central brass Royal Tiger standing proudly in a walking position on a patch of ground. The tiger is encircled by a split brass laurel wreath that merges into a lower sweeping banner scroll bearing the bold regimental title "YORK AND LANCASTER". The apex of the layout is beautifully adorned with a white metal Union Rose (combining the York and Lancaster roses) topped with a coronet crown.
The York and Lancaster Regiment possesses a storied heritage dating back to 1758. The iconic Royal Tiger insignia was originally granted to honor the predecessor 65th Regiment of Foot for their grueling, distinguished twenty years of historic service in India from 1793 to 1822. The unique Union Rose reflects the amalgamation of the Yorkshire and Lancashire lineages, making this a highly symbolic and foundational piece for British infantry collectors.
• Front: Excellent display condition with sharp, detailed definition on the tiger’s stripes and the individual petals of the central rose. Showcases a wonderful, deeply aged natural tarnish in the recessed areas.
• Reverse: Features a clean hollow back strike. The original long brass slider backing is completely straight and remains solidly anchored to the main frame, showing typical authentic green verdigris spots around the solder joints from age. (Please see high-resolution photos for full detail).
