Large vintage Jacques-Yves Cousteau commemorative medallion featuring the famous French oceanographer and his research vessel Calypso.
One side features a detailed raised portrait of Commandant Jacques-Yves Cousteau, wearing his characteristic cap and smoking a pipe. Inscribed “Commandant Jacques-Yves Cousteau” and signed R. Duboc beneath the portrait.
The reverse depicts Calypso at sea in raised relief, surrounded by the inscription “Le Monde des Océans”, with “La Calypso” and “Robert Laffont Éditeur” below.
A substantial and unusual piece of vintage maritime, oceanographic and Cousteau memorabilia.
