Up for auction is a beautiful 1948–1949 Bulova "His Excellency" men's dress watch. This timepiece features a highly collectible configuration that checks every box for vintage Bulova enthusiasts.
- The Crystal: Features the highly sought-after, factory-original 4-way faceted prism glass crystal. As seen in the profile photos, the geometric glass rises dramatically to a central ridge. The crystal is in very nice condition with no chips or cracks.
- The Movement: Powered by Bulova’s premium, high-grade 21-Jewel Caliber 7AK manual-wind movement. It features a clean nickel bridge stamped with the "48" date code (1948).
- The Case: Premium 14K Gold-Filled case (stamped on the case back). The case back is stamped with serial number 9502476, indicating a 1949 case assembly pairing perfectly with the 1948 movement.
- The Dial: Original Art Deco dial with matching hands and a sub-second registry at the 6 o'clock position. Unrestored, original finish.
- The watch band is old, worn, cracked, and could use replacing.
Condition & Functionality:
The watch was wound up one time and is still currently running, ticking, and keeping time for just over 26 hours now; it's maybe a minute or two fast, but overall looks pretty accurate during that time. As of the listing, I do not know how accurate it is over a longer period of time. It is being sold in its unserviced condition. Because it has spent decades carefully stored and the original oils are dry, a professional cleaning and oiling (routine service) is highly recommended if you intend to wear it as a daily timekeeper.
The watch shown in the pictures goes to the winning bidder.
