AN EXTREMELY FINE AND WELL EXECUTED 19TH CENTURY NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, SIGNED AND DATED; "LYDIA MAXTON, 1827".
IN FINE WOOL THREAD ON A LINEN OR HOMESPUN BACK IT HAS WONDERFUL BLUE FLOWER POTS AND VASES ON THE TOP WITH ROWS OF ALPHABETS BELOW.
IN THE CENTER, ALSO IN BLUE IS A FINE SENTIMENT AND ON THE BOTTOM THERE ARE MORE BLUE FLOWER POTS AND URNS AS WELL AS LYDIA'S NAME AND THE DATE 1827.
IT HAS A VERY FINE AND DETAILED FLORAL BORDER THROUGHOUT.
THE COLORS ARE PREDOMINATELY BLUE.
AMERICAN, CIRCA 1827 IN A LATER LATE 19TH CENTURY FRAME.
THIS PIECE IS IN FINE ORIGINAL CONDITION.
THERE ARE NO RIPS OR VISIBLE DAMAGES AND THE COLORS ARE STILL BRIGHT WITH A LOT OF BLUE COLORED THREADS.
THE ONLY FADED AREA IS LYDIA'S NAME.
NO HOLES OR THREAD LOSSES AND
THE SAMPLER IS MUCH BETTER IN PERSON.
THE INFORMATION WE RECEIVED WAS THAT THIS SAMPLER CAME FROM A CHESTER, PA FAMILY.
LYDIA ANN MAXTON WAS BORN IN CHESTER, PA ON JUNE 7, 1810 SO SHE WAS 17 WHEN SHE COMPLETED THIS SAMPLER.
SHE MARRIED HARVEY DURNAL ON FEBRUARY 2, 1843, ALSO IN CHESTER, PA AND SHE DIED ON APRIL 17, 1892.
SHE HAD THREE CHILDREN.
FRAME IS 22" WIDE AND 17" TALL.
Sampler is 20 1/2" tall by 15 1/2" wide.
