Antique 1887 Holy Bible published by the American Bible Society in New York. This handsome late-19th-century Bible features an elaborately embossed black leather-style binding with raised decorative panels, gilt accents, and the word “Holy Bible” on the spine.
The title page identifies this as an 1887 American Bible Society publication. The Bible contains the Old and New Testaments, translated out of the original tongues with the former translations diligently compared and revised.
This example has wonderful antique character, including handwritten ownership inscriptions on the front endpapers, aged paper, naturally darkened page edges, and extensive wear to the binding.
Condition: Significant age-related wear. The cover and edges show heavy rubbing, scuffing, and loss of the black finish/gilt. Corners and spine edges are worn and frayed. The title page and some interior pages have tears and edge wear. Endpapers are stained/aged. Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photos are an important part of the condition description.
