Some occasional foxing particularly on preliminary leaves, dark green cloth covered boards with titles in gilt and elaborate pictorial gilt stamped device on front board and spine, else an very good, firm and bright copy.

The author saw active service in the gorges of the Karakorum during the Hunza-Nagar expedition. The Three Empires referred to are: Great Britain (as ruler of India), Russia and China.
