The maker of this piece is the legendary French ceramic manufacturer Sarreguemines. They produced these highly collectible, glazed earthenware typewriter models in the 1950s and 1960s. Commissioned for the French typewriter brand Japy as a retro corporate advertising / promotional piece given to typewriter vendors and clients
While originally designed as an ashtray, its unique shape makes it incredibly versatile for modern homes. It works beautifully as a desk tidy for paperclips etc; keys on a hallway console; a useful business card holder on a your desk or a trinket dish or catchall on a nightstand (vide poche in French)
An ideal gift for any typewriter collector and would be a wonderful addition to any home bar or lounge area. It could even make the perfect prop for a TV, film or theatrical production.
