Original late 16th / early 17th century Hans Krauwinckel reckoning counter or jetton, attributed by the original collector to c.1580-1610.

These counters were produced in Nuremberg and used for accounting and calculation before the widespread adoption of written arithmetic.

The piece displays a decorative central design with surrounding legend to both sides. It retains a good amount of detail for its age, with an attractive dark brown patina.
