Description

Evolution and the Orthodox Church: A Plea for Theological Reform by Manly P. Hall, published in 1925 by Hall Publishing Company, Los Angeles. First Edition. An early work from Hall’s formative period exploring the conflict between orthodox Christian creationism and evolutionary science. Drawing upon Darwin and Huxley, Hall argues for a third, philosophical interpretation in which physical evolution forms part of a greater process of spiritual development. The work anticipates Hall’s lifelong attempt to reconcile religion, science, ancient philosophy, and the esoteric traditions within a universal conception of human evolution and consciousness. Based upon lectures delivered at the Church of the People in Los Angeles and the Scottish Rite Auditorium in San Francisco. Original softcover lecture booklet showing light shelfwear.
