Description

Vintage Chinese red clay steam pot with fitted domed lid, two side handles, central steam chimney and hand-incised Chinese characters around the exterior.

This distinctive style of vessel is commonly known as a qiguo (汽锅), Yunnan steam pot, or Chinese chicken steamer. Steam enters through the hollow center chimney to cook food inside the covered vessel.

The underside is impressed “MADE IN CHINA.” The exterior features incised Asian/Chinese-style calligraphy or characters.

Approximate measurements:

* 7.5” diameter
* 5” tall with lid

Attractive reddish-brown unglazed clay with a wonderfully rustic, traditional appearance. A great piece for a collector of Chinese pottery, Asian kitchenware, traditional cookware, or international folk pottery.

Please note: Exact maker, production region and age are unknown. This piece is being described as Yunnan-style based on its traditional steam-pot form rather than as a confirmed Jianshui-made piece.

Please see photos as they are an important part of the description.
