Who was T.G. Ryman Jr.?

He was the son of the well-known Capt. Thomas Green “Tom” Ryman (1841–1904), a successful Cumberland River steamboat operator based in Nashville, Tennessee. Capt. Tom Ryman built one of the largest fleets on that river (at times 30+ boats under the Ryman Line) and is best remembered for funding the Union Gospel Tabernacle—later renamed the Ryman Auditorium—after his religious conversion. Family members, including sons, continued in river work as captains, agents, and managers. Issuing a free annual pass to a Ryman agent on another line’s account was standard industry practice for reciprocal privileges among packet companies.
