This is an antique faux tortoiseshell calling card case with an original calling card.

I’m fairly certain it dates from the 19th century.

The piece measures 3 inches tall x 2 5/8 inches wide x 1/2 inch thick (8.9 cm, 6.6 cm, 1.3 cm).

The case has a lot of scattered damage. The largest area is at the side with the hinge which is cracked. There are numerous areas where tiny pieces are missing, though they are mostly along the thin silver lines on either side. The little push tab does not push in so the only way it opens is by the other side where the hinge is. You literally have to open that side first.
