A rare 1950s/60s Danish studio pottery "Amazonas" gravy boat or basket by Einer Hellerøe for BR Keramik. Features the iconic sgraffito zebra striping and an intact, beautifully preserved authentic woven bamboo handle.
The Design & Provenance
This striking piece of Mid-Century Modern Scandinavian design comes from the highly sought-after "Amazonas" series. Designed by celebrated ceramicist Einer Hellerøe for BR Keramik (Brothers Rasmussen) in Denmark, it perfectly captures the earthy, organic, and graphic aesthetic of 1950s/1960s Nordic studio pottery.
The vessel features a beautiful, asymmetrical swooping silhouette decorated with crisp, incised horizontal white stripes cut through a matte dark chocolate/black glaze. It is spectacularly finished with a distinctive, original cane/bamboo wrapped handle affixed to the clay lugs.
