"Elmira, Aprl 24, 1845

Dear Sir,
You have in your possession two books that I value very highly; and as your knowledge of Geology is much more extensive without doubt than mine is, with I think I must call for them. You told me they are very-very rare. They are north $5.00 in cash—would you believe it? If you choose to send me $5.00 mail that amount & you may keep them, and if I were worth half a million, I would present them. I am closing up my business, and expect soon to go South West, in which I can have a great field to move in, get more money, even with less labor, and be a "big man" yet. Send me a line- do. I hope you are well. Respects to Mr. H. I said a good thing for your Girl—my pupil the other day.
