A striking antique French transferware plate by Creil et Montereau, featuring the romantic titled scene “La Sérénade (Grenade)”.
The black central illustration depicts a musician serenading a woman at her window, surrounded by an elaborate cobalt-blue border decorated with grapes, fruit, flowers, musical instruments, sheet music, and ornamental motifs. The small “No. 1” beside the scene suggests that this plate was originally part of a numbered narrative series.
The reverse bears the Creil et Montereau / Médailles d’Or / L.M. & Cie maker’s mark. A beautiful example of antique French faïence fine transferware, ideal for display, a gallery wall, or an antique ceramics collection.

Condition
Sold AS IS for decorative display or collection.
The plate has a significant old crack extending inward from the rim, with branching visible on the reverse. There is also overall age-related crazing, scattered discoloration, surface wear, and minor edge wear.
The plate remains intact and displays well, but the crack is structural and the piece should be handled carefully. It is not recommended for food use.
Please examine all photographs closely, especially the detailed images of the crack, as they are an important part of the condition description.
