This is a classic steam‑train engraving on the reverse of a 1936 Buffalo nickel. I carved the locomotive with a tall front stack and pushed the smoke upward in layered curves so it looks like it’s rolling forward. The wheels and body lines are cut clean and straight to keep that old‑school train silhouette sharp. It’s one of those traditional hobo‑nickel themes — simple, bold, and carved to pop when you tilt it in the light.
I carve every coin by hand, keeping the engraving tradition alive: slow cuts, layered depth, and designs that turn regular currency into small pieces of pocket art. If you’re into engraving techniques or hobo nickel history, this one shows off motion carving and classic subject work.
