Somewhere in 1993, a Warner Bros. executive walked into a meeting and said:
“What if Bugs Bunny had a filmography?”
And instead of asking Gary from marketing to go home and sleep it off, everyone apparently nodded.
Thus we arrive here.
Two ceramic mugs documenting the distinguished cinematic careers of cartoon animals who have spent most of the last century dropping anvils on each other.
☕🐰🎬
The first honors Hair-Raising Hare, the timeless 1946 story of Bugs Bunny meeting Gossamer — an enormous orange creature who looks like Cousin Itt got electrocuted inside a bottle of Tang.
Naturally, this warranted commemorative drinkware.
The second celebrates Bugs Bunny in King Arthur’s Court, because history has long suffered from one glaring omission:
Daffy Duck.
There are castles.
There is medieval pageantry.
There is Porky Pig.
There is Bugs standing confidently in the middle of everything like he hasn't personally caused 78% of the problems currently unfolding.
And the whole thing is presented with the dignity of a Turner Classic Movies retrospective.
😂
These came from the Warner Bros. Studio Store in 1993, which means we have now reached the portion of adulthood where the mall stores from our childhood have become collectible history.
Excellent.
Love that journey for our joints.
If you remember the Warner Bros. Store, you probably also remember when going to the mall was an EVENT.
You weren't ordering toothpaste from your couch.
You were putting on hard pants.
You were getting in a vehicle.
You were entering a building containing approximately 147 stores, an Orange Julius, several decorative fountains and at least one kiosk employee who was about to make aggressive eye contact with your mother.
And somewhere among all that glorious fluorescent chaos was an entire store dedicated to the completely reasonable proposition that your home needed more Bugs Bunny.
Sweatshirt?
Bugs Bunny.
Clock?
Bugs Bunny.
Coffee mug?
Obviously Bugs Bunny.
Nobody questioned it.
We were a proper society.
These two appear to have somehow escaped that society without ever being recruited into morning coffee duty. They look unused, which means somebody bought them, brought them home and apparently decided Bugs Bunny was simply too important to be trusted with Folgers.
Thirty-three years later, I have inherited the consequences of that decision.
So here they are.
Two tiny ceramic monuments to an extinct mall store, several fictional film careers, and a period in American history when we collectively agreed an orange monster in sneakers belonged on the good mug.
Honestly?
1993 made some excellent decisions.
