Chomatodus sp.

Petalodont Tooth

Mississippian – Burlington Limestone

Biggsville, IL

Here is a piece featuring a very nice Mississippian tooth, a small Chomatodus sp., measuring roughly 20 mm in length. This specimen was collected from a quarry over 30 years ago.

Identification of Paleozoic shark and holocephalian teeth is difficult and fraught with unresolved synonymy. I used the original Illinois Geological Survey publications along with the Handbook of Paleoichthyology to try and unravel this puzzle.

Specimen # 04.12.23-1

Payment must be received within 6 days of auction closing. I can combine shipments where it will not risk damage to the specimens. If you are buying several items, please do not pay for them individually. I will find a box to hold all the items where suitable and will invoice you for combined shipping.

S&H includes a handling and supplies charge to cover costs above actual shipping.

Note to International Buyers: For Fossil and Mineral Specimens, I always use the Customs Code 9705.00.00.91 which is for fossil and mineral collectables. By international agreement that should make them duty free, however I have no control over individual customs offices and how they interpret the rules. In addition, some countries assess a VAT. All pricing and shipping/handling is exclusive of Duty and/or VAT, which will be the responsibility of the purchaser. By law I am required to fill out customs forms accurately.

Good Luck
