A finely cast bronze group of two whippets at play with a ball, after the celebrated French animalier sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810–1879). The oval base bears the signature P.J. MÊNE.
This example has been in the same family collection since the 1980s and is consistent with an earlier 20th-century recast of Mêne’s famous model “Jiji et Giselle”. The casting retains good definition in musculature, collars, and movement, with an attractive aged patina.
