The thick body’s exterior is decorated using the block print technique in underglaze cobalt.

Depicts horizontal bands of shou characters, traditionally symbolizing a wish for longevity. Center medallion features a stylized “Fu” character, symbolizing good fortune. 

Unglazed ring around center medallion due to stacking methods in the kiln during firing during the period.

Swatow was produced for both the domestic Chinese market and export, especially throughout Southeast Asia. This style is distinctive to the late Ming period, with archeological evidence suggesting the ware’s production between 1575 and 1650, with its peak around 1620. 

Dates to 17th century CE, during the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644)
