This listing is for a medal honoring General Christian Julius de Meza who played a crucial and distinguished role in the Battle of Idsted (Isted) on July 25, 1850, during the First Schleswig War. The De Meza family were a prominent Sephardic Jewish family who played important roles in many aspects of Danish society during the 18th and 19th centuries.

This white metal medal measures 1 3/4" across and weighs 29 grams.

Reverse: Pictures at the bottom a snake, flags, swords, and bayonets. Captioned: HVOR FAREN VAR, DER VAR DE MEZA MED! / SELV DA DET HAM PAA KRAFTEN BRISTED HAN, NEPPE KARSK, DOG FLOI AFSTED OG SEIREN FJENDENS HAAND FRAVRISTED." which translates to: "Wherever danger lay, there too was Meza! / Even when his strength failed him—scarcely fit for the fray—he flew into the thick of it and wrested victory from the enemy's grasp."
