Starting on a PC 
Newer computers have secure boot settings that can block Batocera.
  1. Insert: Plug the USB drive into a USB 3.0 port (usually blue or red).
  2. Access BIOS/Boot Menu: Restart the PC and immediately spam the boot menu key (usually F12, F11, F10, or Esc).
  3. Disable Secure Boot: If Batocera doesn't appear or fails to boot, go into BIOS settings (often Del or F2) and set Secure Boot to "Disabled".
  4. Boot Order: Choose the USB drive from the boot menu. UEFI is preferred if offered.
  5. First Boot: The first boot takes longer as Batocera expands the partition to use all USB space.
