Fine Antique English Pewter Deep Dish Plate, Townsend & Reynolds, c. 1767-1770. This beautiful deep dish plate with a flat or plain rim. This plate is a very fine example of early pewter, manufactured by a partnership of two early English manufacturer's. This partnership of Townsend and Reynolds only existed for three years. This plate has two touch marks one that reads, "TOWNSEND & REYNOLDS" and another that reads, "MADE IN" above and "LONDON" below. There are also four hallmarks, although with this example the last hallmark is almost entirely worn. The plate has a single reeded rim with a shallow bowl. This mark is listed in "OLD PEWTER, IT'S MAKERS AND MARKS" by Cotterell, #4797, page 323. This Townsend and Reynolds mark is attributed to 1767 to 1770.
