Title: Vintage 1968 Polish Art Medal – 150th Anniversary of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków
Artist: Designed by the celebrated Polish sculptor and medalist Bronisław Chromy (1925–2017).
Description:
Up for auction is a beautiful, highly collectible mid-century cast bronze art medal issued in 1968 to commemorate the 150th anniversary (1818–1968) of the prestigious Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland.
- Obverse (Front): Features a striking, deeply textured relief depiction of the famous touching hands of God and Adam, inspired by Michelangelo's masterwork The Creation of Adam.
- Reverse (Back): Shows a ruggedly styled, vertically stacked Polish block inscription reading: "AKADEMIA SZTUK PIĘKNYCH W KRAKOWIE 1818–1968". It is subtly signed "B. Chromy" in the design.
This piece showcases Chromy’s legendary organic styling, raw textures, and brutalist mid-century design choices. A great addition for collectors of Polish art, numismatics, or fine bronze works.
