Original 1860s Victorian tintype portrait of a young bearded gentleman, presented in its original decorative hinged case.

The gentleman is sharply dressed in a dark coat, vest, white shirt and bow tie. A particularly nice detail is the hand-applied gold tinting at the center of his bow tie, which adds a little extra character to the portrait.

The tintype is surrounded by an ornate gold-tone brass mat and preserver and housed in a handsome period case. The opposite side features deep red embossed velvet with a decorative floral motif. The exterior of the case has an attractive embossed geometric and scroll design with gilt accents.

The portrait has a wonderful Civil War-era appearance and would make an excellent addition to a collection of antique photography, tintypes, Victorian portraits, Civil War-era ephemera or cased photographs.

Condition: The tintype shows age-related spotting, small surface marks and light wear as pictured. The case has expected wear, rubbing and losses to the exterior finish consistent with its age. Interior velvet and brass components show age-related wear. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
