ANTIQUE ASH SPLINT COVERED FEATHER GATHERING BASKET STATIONARY HANDLE
Feather Gathering Basket with integrated bentwood handle and attached lid, New England origin, probably Maine (Wabanaki: Micmac, Penobscot, et al.), c.1925 Finely woven, Ash Splint construction with a bentwood handle that runs through the double rim; original radial splint lid. Stationary handle with sliding round top on the round basket. Hand carved handle well woven supports. The cover is secured in-place by both handle arms and lifts or tilts easily for gathering feathers.
We think it is signed Mrs. F. Austin 34 burleigh Street, Westerville Maine on the bottom.
Basket is very light but large 13 inch diameter and 12 inches tall to top of hand carved handle, depth of basket 4-1/2 inches. Great light nut brown color and in great condition. No breaks, clean.
