A charming pair of original mid-nineteenth-century drawings by the French artist Alfred-André Geniole (1813–1861), executed in pencil with one example delicately heightened in watercolour. Both works are signed “A. Geniole” at the lower right.
The drawings depict intimate domestic genre scenes. One shows a seated mother surrounded by children, rendered with gentle observational detail. The second presents two women seated together in quiet conversation on a settee, capturing a moment of quiet emotional exchange.
These sketches were originally mounted in a Grand Tour album assembled during the 1830s, which contained drawings and engravings collected during continental travel. Such albums often preserved original works by contemporary artists alongside printed views and souvenirs.
Geniole was known for his refined figurative compositions and for work connected with theatrical and decorative arts. His sensitivity to gesture and expression is evident in these small but expressive studies, which convey a strong sense of intimacy and narrative.

Both drawings show traces of blue album paper residue on the reverse where originally mounted. The sheets remain structurally sound and visually very attractive.
