This is far more than just the common manual. The handwritten notes closely follow the official instruction booklet and represent an actual student's classroom training during World War I. Together with Mrs. Gilpatrick's named certificate, the group offers exceptional historical and genealogical interest while documenting the vital home-front volunteer effort that supplied surgical dressings for wounded Allied soldiers.

The manual contains detailed illustrated instructions covering:

The handwritten class notes provide an excellent record of the material taught during Red Cross instruction and greatly enhance the historical importance of the group. Named Red Cross training groups with both instructional notes and the recipient's certificate are encountered far less frequently than the manual alone.
