This is an enchanting regimental sweetheart brooch or badge, for The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), dating from the FIRST World War, (1914-1918).
It features the St. Andrew's cross in a central white enamel circle with the motto "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit" (No one provokes me with impunity). The badge is SOLID Sterling silver with blue, red and white enamel details highlighting "Royal", "Highldrs", "Black", and "Watch".It measures 31mm X 26mm and weighs a chunky 5 grams. They were purchased by servicemen to leave with wives, mothers, or girlfriends as romantic keepsakes before deploying overseas. This is in an excellent condition, with all enamel intact. There is tarnish and patina to the silver, which I prefer, although this could be polished up gleaming and new-like, if preferred.Stamped 'STERLING and T.L.M. for Thomas Le Mott to the rear.It is a stunning and most collectable piece of militaria.
