Antique Staffordshire Dark Blue and White Transfer Saucer, "CHRISTMAS EVE", James and Ralph Clews, Wilkies Designs, England, c. 1820 - 1840. This beautiful dark blue and white transfer saucer has a very interesting transfer scene of a family sitting around a table with a dog in the foreground waiting for the Christmas celebration. This Staffordshire saucer was produced by Ralph and James Clews around 1820 to 1825, and is a part of their Wilkie's Designs transfer series. This has a dark blue floral and leaf border. This saucer is marked with an impressed crown mark that reads, "CLEWS WARRANTED STAFFORDSHIRE". There is also a blue printed mark with the view name, "CHRISTMAS EVE - CLEWS MANUFACTURED". This is truly an exceptional example of a very fine dark blue Staffordshire saucer!
